The outdoor timber others are measured against
Teak, Tectona grandis, earned its reputation on the decks of ships, and nothing has displaced it since. Its secret is in the wood itself: a high natural oil content and tight, durable grain that shrug off water, rot and insects without any chemical treatment. Left outdoors, it silvers gracefully to a soft grey; oiled, it holds a warm golden-brown.
Our teak is plantation-grown in Fiji — a small but premium resource — and managed to Fiji’s new Interim Forest Stewardship Standard, the framework that came into effect in March 2026 to bring the country’s hardwood forestry up to internationally recognised practice.
Working with teak
Teak machines and finishes well with sharp tooling, though its natural oils mean surfaces are best cleaned with solvent before gluing or coating — a small price for a timber that lasts decades in the harshest conditions. It is the natural choice for garden and contract furniture, decking, marine joinery and flooring that has to take punishment.
Supply
Fijian teak is supplied to order in sawn and dimensioned stock. Because the resource is limited and premium, we recommend discussing your requirements early — get in touch with your specification.
